This Week in Lee’s Summit: Issue No. 2

This is the web edition of our weekly newsletter, brought to you by The Lee’s Summit Community Facebook Group. Issue No. 2, Thursday, September 10, 2026.
Hey neighbors! Issue No. 2 is here, and it’s garage sale weekend. Below: where to find (or list) the sales, the local stories everyone is talking about, what’s happening around town this weekend, and the businesses we featured this week.
Around Town
Garage Sale Weekend, Sept. 11 to 13. Every garage, yard, estate, and moving sale in and around Lee’s Summit is in one thread in the group. Hosting one? Add yours in the comments with the address, dates, times, and a few standout items. Hunting? It’s your map for the weekend. Open the garage sale thread
Flock cameras are the talk of the town. Lee’s Summit has 54 license plate reader cameras, a citizen group wants them removed, and the police chief says they solve real crimes. We put together a neutral guide to what they do, what they cost, and what each side says. Read the guide
The LSR7 budget story keeps growing. The district told FOX4 it already cut 10 percent of spending last year and expects a bigger gap next year, while the county executive says refunding over-assessed taxpayers comes first. The board votes Sept. 29. Our explainer has the full picture, and here is FOX4’s report.
Police need help on the 291 shooting. Detectives are looking for four suspects who fired on an SUV at MO-291 and Chipman Road on Sept. 2, injuring two people. They are believed to have fled in a dark gray 2015 to 2017 Ford F-150 with a California plate. Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public, but if you saw anything, call Crime Stoppers at 816-474-TIPS. Details and the truck photo
Friday night lights. A tough road weekend in Nebraska: the Lee’s Summit Tigers fell 35-14 at Omaha Westside and Lee’s Summit North came up short at Millard South. Both are back at it this Friday. Good luck to all our LS teams!
