Community Politics Group Rules
Lee’s Summit Community Politics is the public, opt-in place for neighbors to talk about the politics of Lee’s Summit and the districts we live in: city council, the mayor, the LSR7 school board, Jackson and Cass County, and the Missouri state issues that reach us here. It exists because the main community group doesn’t allow politics, and those conversations deserve a home with clear rules. Every post is reviewed before it goes live. These are the rules, with the reasoning behind each one.
1Local, county, and state only
This group covers Lee’s Summit, LSR7, Jackson and Cass County, and Missouri state issues that touch us at home. No national politics, national candidates, or national culture-war topics. Those posts are declined, not debated. If you’re not sure whether a topic qualifies, ask yourself whether a Lee’s Summit official, board, or ballot can do anything about it.
2Be a decent human being
Civil disagreement is the whole point of this group. Bullying, name-calling, hate speech, threats, and personal attacks get the post removed and can get you removed. Attack the argument, never the person. People’s race, religion, culture, and sexuality are not up for discussion.
3Every side gets a fair hearing
If a post follows these rules, it gets approved, whether the moderators agree with it or not. Expect to see opinions you don’t share. That is what this group is for, and it’s why the main community group sends politics here.
4Report rule breaks, not opinions
Reporting a post because you disagree with it is not a report, it’s an attempt to silence a neighbor. Repeated bad-faith reporting can get the reporter suspended. Real rule violations, please do report them; moderators can’t see everything.
5Keep it honest
Share a source when you make a factual claim about a candidate, an official, a vote, or a budget. Knowingly false claims about candidates, officials, or neighbors will be removed.
6No business promotion, no selling, no spam
Business promotion belongs in The Lee’s Summit Community for directory members. Nothing for sale here, ever. Scams and spam get you removed on the first offense.
7Search before you post
Check the pinned posts and search the group before starting a new thread on a topic that’s already running. Duplicates get merged or declined so conversations stay in one place.
8Working links only
Shared content must be accessible to the group. Dead links, paywalled screenshots with no context, and unavailable content will be removed.
9Moderators are neutral, by rule
Moderators enforce these rules and nothing else. They don’t promote candidates or agendas as moderators, and moderation decisions aren’t debated in the comments. If you have a concern about a moderation call, message the admin. Want to help? Apply to moderate.
How moderation works here
Moderators are volunteers from the community who agree to a simple code: apply the rules as written, approve what qualifies even when they disagree with it, never campaign while wearing the moderator hat, and escalate anything hard to the admin. Neutral moderation is the deal that makes a political group survivable, and it’s the standard every moderator here is held to.
