The Lee’s Summit Community started on August 7, 2014 as a simple Facebook group: a place for neighbors to ask questions, share what was happening, and help each other out. Twelve years later it’s more than 81,000 members strong, with hundreds of new neighbors joining every week, and it’s still run by residents who live here.

Why we exist

Every day, people turn to their community for answers: a reliable plumber, a local event, a friendly recommendation. Our mission is simple: help residents discover trusted local businesses, provide a place for real conversations and community needs, and keep the feed useful, honest, and free of spam.

Why we built it this way

Every town has local Facebook groups. Most of them drown. The feed fills with business ads, drama threads, and copy-paste spam until the actual neighbors stop reading. We decided early that this group would be different, and that decision shaped everything since.

Heavily moderated, on purpose

Every post that hits this group gets reviewed. Our team declines hundreds of posts every day, and roughly nineteen out of twenty declines are business posts from businesses that haven’t joined the community the right way. That’s not a technicality. It’s the whole reason your feed is readable.

Facebook gives groups no built-in way to manage business posting, so we built our own: the Local Directory. Businesses that join are vetted, listed, and pre-approved to post. Everyone else’s promotional posts get declined. The directory funds the moderation that keeps the group useful, and the group gives directory members a real audience. Neighbors get a clean feed, businesses get a fair shot, and nobody gets buried in spam.

Politics got its own home

Political conversation matters, and it also takes over every room it enters. So we gave it a room: Lee’s Summit Community Politics is the dedicated group for candidates, issues, and debate, with neighbors who chose to be there. The main group stays about daily life in Lee’s Summit.

Who runs this

Real people, not a faceless page. The group is administered by Joe Adams, a Lee’s Summit resident, alongside a volunteer team of admins and moderators who review every post that comes through. The Local Communities and the Local Directory are operated by Invisyn Solutions, Joe’s Lee’s Summit technology company, which builds and maintains the directory, this site, and the tools that keep the community running.

Where it’s going

The group, the directory, and this site are pieces of the same idea: local connection with the noise filtered out. Member Spotlights now feature a different local business every weekday. The newsletter delivers community news to your inbox. And there’s more coming.
