Group Rules
The Lee’s Summit Community works because it’s moderated like it matters. Every post gets reviewed, and these are the rules our admins and moderators apply, expanded so you can see the reasoning behind each one.
1Be respectful. No drama, no business complaints.
Keep it civil. Disagree all you want, but bullying, harassment, hate speech, and personal attacks have no place here. This also isn’t the venue for airing complaints about businesses or calling people out; take that directly to the business or leave a review where reviews belong. Posts that cross the line get removed, and repeat offenders get removed too.
2Business promotions require a directory listing
Only businesses that have completed our directory listing process can post promotional content. It’s not that we dislike businesses; unvetted promotion would bury everything else. Exceptions: local youth sports, job postings, and general business recommendations are always welcome. Questions? info@localdirectory.io.
3No politics here. We built a place for it.
Political posts, memes, candidate promotions, and agendas stay out of this group. Join Lee’s Summit Community Politics for those discussions with neighbors who opted in to have them.
4No selling, buying, or garage sale posts
No selling, buying, or rehoming of any kind: items, free stuff, ISO posts, pets, real estate, or tickets. Facebook Marketplace and garage sale groups exist for exactly this. During garage sale season, watch Featured Posts for our dedicated thread. Exception: fundraisers for local school districts, youth sports, and private schools.
5Legitimate job postings only
Job posts must be for real, identifiable businesses: a direct application link and full contact information including a company email. No anonymous listings.
6Check Featured Posts before posting
We maintain ongoing threads for common topics like events, recommendations, and public information. If your post fits one, comment there instead of starting a new post; it keeps answers findable for the next neighbor with the same question.
7Community resources for support
If you or someone you know needs help with food, housing, mental health, or more, start with our curated list of local community resources. Real help from the right places.
8Crime and missing person reports
Posts about stolen items, burglaries, missing persons, or other crimes are allowed when accompanied by a police report number. Use your best judgment when creating or sharing these posts.
9No dead links
Make sure anything you share is accessible and not restricted. Unavailable content gets removed to keep the group useful.
10Report posts honestly
Reports should be based on actual rule violations, not disagreement, and never because a post competes with your own business. Members who abuse reporting get suspended; repeat offenses mean removal.
